Photo papers come in a variety of finishes from matte to semi-gloss (satin, pearl, luster) to gloss. At the lower end most photo papers are RC (resin coated) usually with a smooth surface. At the higher end there are 100% cotton photo papers which are similar to the darkroom papers of old. If you are looking for a variety of finishes then photo paper may be the right choice for printing your photos or artwork.
Art papers are usually nice and thick, made of 100% cotton and have a matte finish with a variety of different surface textures. If any of those characteristics sound appealing then an art paper may be a great choice for printing your photography or artwork.
The canvas that we use is a matte finish but the coating that is applied to the canvas for UV and handling protection can be anything from matte to glossy depending on how it is mixed. Our standard and favourite mix is 75% gloss and 25% matte which gives the final canvas a semi-gloss look. Most people choose to get their canvas stretched over a frame (gallery wrap) which is ready to hang on the wall.
